Key Ingredients You'll Need
-
Tomato Sauce: A standard 15oz can acts as the perfect base.
-
Tomato Paste: I recommend grabbing the cans that already have basil, oregano, or garlic flavors to give your sauce a head start on depth.
-
Italian Seasoning: The essential blend for that classic pizzeria flavor.
-
Granulated Sugar: A touch of sugar cuts the acidity of the tomatoes and balances the flavors.
-
Garlic Powder & Onion Powder: Add savory depth to the sauce.
-
Fennel Seed: (Optional) If you love that authentic sausage-pizza flavor, add a pinch of this!
Jus-Rol Ready-To-Bake Pizza Dough
I am not above help in the kitchen on a weeknight! This dough is magical. It is pliable for you to stretch and you can even fold in half to make a Stromboli or calzone. My dad was the judge of this and Jus-Rol Pizza dough received two thumbs up! So much fun for the family and holds up to a mega helping of toppings! Bonus, you can use the paper the thin crust dough comes rolled up in as a sheet to layer your baking pan for easy and even baking. Plus, fast clean without the sticky mess. One sheet makes a square pizza, mine covered almost a 9×13 baking sheet, that is about 12 slices of pizza if you cut it 3 times horizontally and 4 cuts vertically. You can feed a crowd with this Easy Homemade Pizza Sauce With Prosciutto And Mozzarella Pizza dough rom Jus-Rol.

The Pizza Toppings
I realize not everyone loves the same things I do- just know you are missing out! I typically would load this crust and sauce up with every vegetable you could think of with every possible meat including Canadian bacon. Any meat lovers out there? To keep it kid friendly and also exciting for the adults I added prosciutto. An expensive but wise choice. Adds salt to this homemade pizza sauce since I added non to begin with. Prosciutto is easy for kids to pick off as well or just add the prosciutto to one half of the read-to-bake refrigerated Jus-Rol pizza crust. For the cheese, I bought a large ball of mozzarella and then sliced it medium thin then tossed on some parmesan to make it extra cheesy. I find fresh cheese sliced or grated has the best melting factor! Sprinkle basil, I promise you will want this herb!
Stacie’s Tricks & Tips
-
Make It Smoky: If you want a fun twist, add a pinch of cumin or smoked paprika to the sauce to create a “Taco Pizza” base.
-
Storage: This sauce keeps perfectly in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. It actually tastes even better on day two as the flavors have time to meld!
-
Prosciutto Trick: If you love prosciutto on your pizza, add it during the last 2 minutes of baking so it gets crispy without burning.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this homemade pizza sauce need to be cooked?
No! Because you are spreading this on dough and baking it, the sauce will cook along with the pizza. Mixing it in a bowl is all you need to do.
Can I freeze this homemade pizza sauce?
Absolutely. Portion it out into freezer-safe bags or containers and freeze for up to 3 months. Just thaw in the fridge before using.
How is this homemade pizza sauce different from marinara sauce?
While similar, pizza sauce is typically thicker and less cooked than my best homemade marinara sauce. It’s designed to be spread on dough rather than tossed with pasta.
