Topping Ideas
I used baby pepperoni slices you would find with the original pepperoni slices. They were too cute to pass up and figured this is the perfect opportunity to use them with the 2 cans of Pillsbury crescent rolls that have been staring at me for the past couple weeks next to the milk. To be honest, I wanted to snag the mini pepperoni’s just to have them, literally couldn’t be cuter and perfect for a salad. I made these without sauce but I recommend a pesto sauce or even alfredo to really boost the flavors. I am extra, knowing me, I would make two batches of these each with a different sauce just so I could get a little bit of everything!
The Assembly
These are super easy to assemble. If you choose to use a sauce, spread the sauce directly on the dough first, then add your toppings. This way the sauce can adhere to the dough versus dolloping the sauce in the center where it wouldn’t be able to attach to the melty cheese. Roll tightly and give the ends and extra twist to ensure everything is enclosed. Only 12 minutes in the oven, if you like them a little more done, 13 minutes would be ideal. These are just as good with a notch up from golden brown delicious.
Cheese
Use any cheese you like! I prefer mozzarella because I am particular to how my cheese melts. Mozzarella is a great choice and fairly inexpensive. I used the snack size mozzarella balls and cut each one in half. You can use shredded mozzarella cheese instead, it works just as well! For a short cut, grab the pre shredded cheese in the cold section of your grocery store or if you are like me and anal about your fresh cheese, grate your own from a block found in the fancy cheese section of your signature grocery store.
