Salisbury steak is essentially seasoned ground beef shaped into oval patties and cooked in a savory gravy — usually with onions and mushrooms.

Ingredients
  

For The Steaks

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 large eggs
  • cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ cup onion finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tbsp dijon mustard
  • ½ tbsp olive oil

For The Mushroom Gravy

  • ½ tbsp olive oil
  • 8 oz mushrooms sliced, use more if you like
  • ½ cup onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour all-purpose or gluten-free
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • sea salt to finish
  • ground black pepper to finish

Instructions
 

  • Mix your steak ingredients together in a bowl. Form 5 patties.
  • Heat olive oil over medium heat in a skillet. Cook patties on one side until browned. About 2 minutes. Flip and brown the other side for about 1-2 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, scraping all the brown bits, add the remaining ½ tbsp oil and cook onions and mushrooms until just soft.
  • Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  • Sprinkle flour over mushrooms and stir for 45 seconds to 1 minute to create a roux.
  • Slowly pour in beef broth while whisking/stirring.
  • Stir in the ketchup and Dijon mustard. Let this mixture come to a simmer.
  • Return patties to the skillet and simmer 7-9 minutes until cooked through. Remove from the heat and rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  • Sprinkle with sea salt and ground black pepper. Enjoy!
