Ingredients

  • 8 standard-size fully cooked hot dogs
  • 1 8-oz can refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard for the eyes
  • 2 thin sandwich-size slices cheddar or American cheese cut into 8 narrow strips, optional
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter optional
  • Ketchup for the eyes, and mustard, or other dipping sauce, for serving

Instructions

  • Heat the oven to 375°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Pat the hot dogs dry. If using cheese, cut each slice into four narrow strips.
  • Unroll the crescent dough and press the seams together. Cut into strips about ¼ inch wide, then divide loosely into eight portions.
  • Place one optional cheese strip underneath each hot dog. Wrap with dough strips, leaving small spaces between the bandages and a ½-inch opening near one end for the face. Secure the ends against nearby dough.
  • Arrange on the baking sheet about 1 inch apart, with dough ends and optional cheese underneath. Brush lightly with melted butter if using.
  • Bake for 13 to 17 minutes, until the dough is golden and cooked through and the hot dogs are hot throughout. Allow extra time if the dough overlaps are still underdone.
  • Rest for 3 minutes. Use a toothpick to add two tiny mustard eyes to each mummy. Then a bit of ketchup.
  • Serve warm with dipping sauces.

Notes

Recipe Notes

  • A refrigerated crescent dough sheet can replace the crescent rolls.
  • Standard-size hot dogs work best with the listed dough quantity.
  • Thin dough strips bake more evenly than thick, heavily overlapping wraps.
  • Add all eyes after baking.
  • For 16 mummy dogs, double the ingredients and use two baking sheets.
  • Nutrition depends on your hot dog and dough brands, plus any optional cheese, butter, and sauces. Use those product labels to calculate the final recipe card values.
