Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened (2 sticks)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • pinch of salt
  • white gel optional. For bright white buttercream

Instructions
 

  • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter for about 3 minutes until pale and fluffy.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed until combined.
  • Mix in the vanilla extract and salt.
  • Slowly add the heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.
  • Beat on medium-high speed for another 2-3 minutes until light and airy.

  • One 9x13 cake
  • One two-layer 8-inch cake

Storage:
