Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts

Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts

Easy appetizers call for simple ingredients and fool proof directions. 6 ingredients, 8 steps, and 1 delicious bite! Can I get a YEE-HAW?!

I used a sheet pan for this, realizing I could have used a deep dish baking pan (think lasagna pan) and poured the sugar mixture over rather than using a pastry brush. But, now we know both ways works! Ha!

Make this smokey by purchasing smoked bacon, make it more spicy by adding extra flakes, or omit flakes and add black pepper.

I used standard cut strips. If you love thick cut bacon like me you will increase your baking time. I don’t recommend it here because the ratio to the chestnut serves for the perfect balance.

Bite into this and share with your friends for game day, weekend eats, or a friends night in! I mean, is there ever a time when bacon isn’t a good thing? Nope!

Ingredients

  • 1- 16 ounce pack of bacon
  • 2 (8 ounce) cans whole water chestnuts, drained
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes

Directions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degree F. Line baking sheet with parchment.*
  2. Cut bacon slice in half. Wrap each chestnut with bacon, and stick a toothpick down the center to secure bacon. Place on parchment.
  3. Bake 30 minutes.
  4. In a measuring cup, mix together sugar, mayonnaise, water, and red pepper flakes.
  5. Pour or use a pastry brush to drizzle half mixture over each piece.
  6. Place back in oven for 25-27 minutes.
  7. Immedietaly pour remaining (or as much as you want) over bacon wrapped chestnut.
  8. Serve warm, or room temperature.

*You can bake pieces in a cake pan, a deep baking pan, any pan really and then pour mixture, a sheet pan was just what I used because I wasn’t thinking ahead! Always line whatever pan you are using.
