Something Fishy….

Something Fishy….

Ever thought of only eating fish just about every day for a month?

Sounds like a lot but what I experieced mentally and physically was deep sea fishing for benefits I had no idea existed until I took on the challenge by Wild Alaskan Company.

I started the challenge to eat 24 meals of fish in 30 days incorporating a mix of salmon and white fish. I eat salmon anyways with a sweet potato very often, however, learning to cook pollack, halibut, and cod were all a part of the 24 meals. My only challenge was to figure out recipes to eat this fish in order not to get burned out.

I’ll start by saying I was hestitant to recieve a box full of frozen fish. I always thought to eat fresh over frozen, right? Not quite.

When I open up my first package of salmon I was shocked by how meaty it was! Learning that wild caught Alaskan salmon differs from salmon caught elsewhere. I usually cook my salmon 425 F or 450 F depending if I roast my veggies at the same time. I know about 13 minutes at 425F my fish is done by how much fat (white stuff you see) comes out. Well, to my surprised I almost overcooked my fish because there is not as much marbled fat as there is with fish from different companies, distributors, and other areas of the world. I was blown away at the quality I received.

To piggy back on the freshness from the frozen box of fish, fish that is frozen within 24-48 hours after catching it is actually fresher than fish that has been sitting out for hours during the day. Hint, at your local grocery seafood section. Check it out next time after your get your first box of fish HERE with my sweet discount I am offering you! Only the best I will serve my family from here on.

On my first week I could already tell a difference in my skin, my hair, and in my belly! My belly is the first area to gain weight and always the hardest to lose. This was the first month in a LONG time that my belly fat decreased! I lost 1” off my waist that was a combination of eating a healthy variety of fish and better choices for my sides.

During my monthly experience I did not change my weekly workout routine, I only changed my eating. The omega fatty acids are the ones that work with your body and since the fish was my fats and protein, my sides were full of green and orange foods. Spinach, broccoli, roasted brussel sprout and carrots, sweet potatoes, and brown rice/farro. All these help fight belly fat, but when adding the lean fish on top of those foods your body is moving into a fat burning stage because of all the nutrients.

All the nutrients played a role strengthening my nails and hair and gave my skin a gorgeous clean glow, if I do say so myself! 😉 It is because of the healthy nutrients packed in this fish.

One thing I found amazing was after defrosting each piece, no fishy smell! When I go to my local store to buy what use to be my favorite seafood market, there was a light smell when I opened the wrapper before cooking. Keep in mind that was fresh fish I bought and exposed to air all day. Not with Wild Alaskan Company where each pieces comes in a healthy portion size.

I felt better going to bed after my meals, I wasn’t tired waking up, and I left lighter when I woke up in the morning. My joints did not ache after a spin class, or lifting weights, or even yoga (sometimes pretzel poses can do that to you). The fish aided in my recovery and busy life. I work 3 jobs, sleep is crucial for my body and each meal was hearty but light enough so I wasn’t globbed out feeling before bed and woke up refreshed. Not once did I feel achy joints. Ever.

Below are so different ways I used each fish. Fish doesn’t have to be boring or tasteless!

This is the best I have felt in a long, long time mentally and physically. When you eat better you feel better. I cannot wait for my next boxes to come in so I can indulge even more to better my brain, organs, and muscles. You get only one body, make it last and feel your best!

Unleash your inner beast!
